"Subtopian clutter in a village that has ribboned out to join St. Albans. St. Leonard's church seems outwardly unpromising until one spies Roman bricks in the chancel walls. Inside, a Norman chancel arch made of similar bricks is blocked up with an unexciting but rather rare, Perpednicular stone screen. A bizarre sight. There are stylish late Norman arcades in nave and a pleasing Norman font of intersecting arches."

"Opposite the church Pond Farm, mellow and ivy smothered is guarded by four grotesquely truncated oaks."
